The grading system and class size is the most unique out of all the schools I applied to. We don’t have grading systems, so you are encouraged to only focus on your progress and nobody can ever say they are ahead of you. Class size is usually around 17 individuals which allows for much more intimate interactions with your professors. Many of your professors will know you by name and will be able to write you references in the future.

New College has allowed me to have an out-of-this-world experience with my education. I've traveled all over thanks to my school and truly appreciate the open atmosphere and help I have received in making my dreams come true.

New College is unique in its small size, with only 800 students. Most of my fellow students agree that it is smaller than their high school. The small size gives New College a friendly small community feel, so that now after only a year I can recognize most people by sight. The student body itself is also really unique. We frequently don?t wear shoes, clothes, and unfortunately sometimes deodorant. Despite their stinkiness though, New College students are generally nice people, and if you don't want to be as unique as they are, that's ok too.

The college is small, it feels like home. Most of my teachers are helpfull, and seem to care about the students. If you need extra help they have a lab, I can always find help there.

There is an emphasis placed upon independence in learning and in everyday life. As students we are expected to take charge of our educations and our lives outside of school. We are expected to make decisions for ourselves and not depend upon others to make them for us, to take responsbility for our own futures. We do not receive letter grades or GPAs, instead we are given individual evaluations from each professor for each class explaining exactly what we did well and what we need to work on. Thus, we're given a more thorough veiw of our overall education.

No GPA- we are given written evaluations in lieu of grades. Very liberal, extremely open about everything from drug use to sexuality. We study hard but also party hard- Fridays and Saturdays are official party nights. It's very rare to find a party happening on weeknights.

Amber

The community. Everyone tries to make people feel either welcome or awkward
