What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back and talk to myself as a high school student, what a blessing it would be! Truth be told, I did poorly in high school, but now I am attending college which I saw as a new beginning. Now that I know it is important to keep the grades up; now that I know it is wise to discipline yourself in doing your homework and studying; now that I know all these things I would encourage myself more on doing those things. I would let myself know the great things you will experiences with a great high school GPA. I would let myself know that you must study the syllabus, no matter how unimportant you believe it is. I would warn myself not to get attached to becoming a "class clown" because that will not work in the college life. Many things I would advise myself of but the thing that is most important is advising me that though college could be stressing at points, the friends & staff you meet are such a blessing. When you're stressed, when you are going under pressure with mid-terms, you will always have someone there to encourage you.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
When I talk about my school, I brag about how it saves me lots of money by going to a community college for my freshman year of school. Only paying five thousand dollars per year as opposed to twenty or thirty thousand dollars really makes a difference financially. I'm also happy with the community college I'm going to because the campus has a brand new library and learning center. It's nestled in the city of Menifee, and easy to get to for students from Temecula, Murrieta, or Lake Elsinore.

What's unique about your campus?
The best thing about MSJC for me is the variety of classes available and the accesibility. I have a complicated schedule as it is and being able to have a wide selection of times to be able to choose my classes definately helps. I have to combine four schedules on a daily basis. My schedule, both of my children's school schedules, and my husband's schedule, which includes both his jobs. MSJC has given me an opportunity more than anything to be able to get a college education even with my crazy schedule.

Describe your favorite campus traditions.
Mount San Jacinto is the second fastest growing community college in the U.S. This can be a positive and a negative because they have a variety of people going there but it is also harder to get into the classes that people need. If the school could get more funding from the state next year, they will better serve the students attending.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
One thing that I wish I had known before I came to this school is how to organize myself. If I had known this before I attended my classes, I would have been able to focus more on my work and less on stressing out about what I was missing. Now that I have realized that organization helps tremendously, I know that it will help me to pass my classes. Having my books on time and my stationary ready, I know that I won't fall behind and can study hard in and out of school.

What kind of person should not attend this school?
The people I see that tend to give up and waist not only their time but the valuable time of the professors as well, could careless if they pass the class or not. People shouldn't attend my school if they do not understand what they want to do with their lives and what it takes to accomplish their goals. It is important to have a clear vision of their future if they want to succeed.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
As a non-traditional student there were things that I choose MSJC. First, the onsite child development center. I have two children that are under the age of six. Being able to be near my children was very important to me considering all the time I am going to sacrifice for my education. Secondly, I chose MSJC because of the honors program. This is one way I am able to distinguish myself from my peers and, in the future, from the other applicants that I will be compared to when I apply for transfer to a 4-year institution.
