Mount Holyoke College Top Questions

Is the stereotype of students at Mount Holyoke College accurate?

Janice

they are all wrong because mt. holyoke has the most wonderful and nice population of girls that I have ever come across

Caroline

Not at all. Mount Holyoke is 80{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} upper-middle class which is predominantly white too. So all this talks of diversity is not necessarily true always

Lynn

Because we are a women's college, there are plenty of women who are lesbians, but no, not every woman here is bisexual or homosexual, so the stereotypes are not necessarily accurate.

Alex

NO. we wouldn't survive mt holyoke if we were drunk all the time.

Casey

Wellllll....

Annie

To a certain degree- due to the nurturing nature of the community (and the lack of boys) people feel more open to explore their sexualities.

Andy

To a certain extent, I mean stereotypes all take root somewhere. MHC is definitely diverse, and so you always find exceptions to the rules.

Toni

Not always, a great deal of times we are LUGS or BUGS: Lesbian Until Graduation or Bisexual Until Graduation, but not gay at heart. There are a whole bunch of straight kids too

Stef

Not all Mohos are lesbians in fact they constitute a very small percentage of the student body in my view but they are quite outspoken so are more unnoticeable than other students and thus it seems that everyone is a lesbian. Many Moho take school and grades very seriously and getting an A is very important. In class many students go the extra mile and do things not really required in order to get a better grade but not all students. Some students are comfortable with where they are and don't push so hard.

Cathy

Not at all. People are friendly, helpful, engaging, active, and wonderful
