Describe the students at Morgan State University.

If I could compliment my school on one thing it would be its diversity. When I first started at MSU I thought it would be filled with African Americans and nothing else. I've grown to see that I was naive and blinded by the acronym HBCU. In reality Morgan State was made for every race, ethnicity, religion, and culture. They literally have a club or organization for everyone, it's almost impossible to not find something that you can relate to. The best part about it is that besides. Couple immature students you may find everyone is accepting of others beliefs and personal choices. In fact You may see a fashionista who wears heels and big hair to class eberyday conversing with a Afrocentric brother who is always seen in a dashiki. Or the average student who wears jeans and a shirt to class having intellectual conversation about future goals or politics with an Apostolic girl who believes women should only wear skirts. To cut to the chase anyone seeking admission to MSU would find a place where they are comfortable and fit in.

I have not had many racial or religious experiences on campus at Morgan State. There are many backgrounds and ethnic backgrounds on campus so as a student, you may or may not have experiences with these groups. There is no way you could feel out of place at Morgan State because there are all type of individuals with their own belief at Morgan. The dress code at Morgan is not strict. Students usually wear comfortable clothes to class like sweatpants and a hooded sweater. Many different types of students interact with each other through their differences and usually become united. If you walk into the dining hall and there were 4 table to choose from, you would see Jocks/Athletes at one table, Greeks and organizational students at another table, Student Government Associated individual at a third table, and freelance students at the forth one. Majority of Morgan State's Students are from the DC/Maryland/Virginia are but there are a prominent amount of students from various places of New York. The type of financial backgrounds Morgan Students are from vary from poverty stricken communities to middles class homes. Some students are politically aware which is usually contingent upon what is going on in the world politically. Many students do speak on how much they will earn in the future.

Morgan State University is a Historically Black University (HBCU), however, we have students from all backgrounds. We welcome all races, sexual backgrounds, socio-economic classes, and no one is isolated because of their group. We have organizations for that students formulate to make the campus more knowledgeable about their group such as Rainbow Soul which educates on the LGBT community and the Caribean Society which educates students on Caribean heritage and culture. Different types of students are always interacting with one another. Non-Caribean students are apart of the Society just so that they can learn more about it. Morgan State Unviersity has and accept all!

My classmates are eager to learn and take their education seriously because they want a good life for themselves and their future families.

At Morgan State University, one meets students from all walks of life students who are politically driven, diplomatic, learned and seasoned while on the other hand one also comes across naive and ignorant individuals. Students who are in the Student Government Association, Honors Societies or other organizations on campus are very politically driven. They are usually very ambitious and know what they want after college. You could find them talking about life after college, their future dreams and positions they aspire to attain in the government in ten years or more. Unfortunately, there are students who just come to Morgan for the degree and choose not to participate in school activities. They are generally less motivated about school. Lots of in-state students are from Prince George’s (PG) county and majority of out-of-state students are from Brooklyn, New York while the highest numbers of international students are from Nigeria. Most ladies are fashionable you will find people wearing 5 - inch stilettos, pumps, and wedges just name it coupled with designer apparels. For students pursuing a degree in Business, it is mandatory that they wear corporate outfits to class therefore you will see them on suits. Most Morgan guys dress “up”; they wear those Jordan snickers and their baseball caps. The most common brand name is The North Face, Levis and Nike. People from different races do interact and there are minimal racist issues on campus. Morgan students love partying, so if you do like to study hard and party hard, you will really enjoy schooling at Morgan. There's about a party every week on or off campus, most times off campus though. Most students are students from middle class families. In general, in Morgan you will meet various types of students, do not be in a hurry to make friends, but you will definitely find people with the same interest as you. If you academically oriented, you will find geeks who are really into books, and if you are an outgoing person you will definitely find lots of people who love to have fun, if you are a religious person you will find they like that and if you are athletic you will find ambitious athletes like yourself. If you are someone who loves to have bits of everything then Morgan is indeed a place for you. In a scenario of having 4 tables in the dining hall: two tables will be of outgoing who spend the longest time in the dining and make the loudest noise. They are probably entertainers who love to have fun and talk over meals and feel the dining hall is an appropriate place. The second table will be a table of a few friends casually conversely while the last will be of a person sitting alone, because person the person would rather eat quickly and leave the dining hall as soon as possible or just eat in solitude while watching the drama in the hall. In a nut shell, majority of Morgan students are knowledge students who know why they are in college and are current in political affairs.

Even though our school is an HBCU, we still have diversity on our campus. We have people from all types of backgrounds, all types of religious beliefs, and all types of orientations. Morgan State is like a gumbo; a lot of different things mixed together to create greatness. No one will ever feel out of place.

This is a common response from our nonchalant student body when prompted about anything under the sun. The majority of our students appear like they could care less about anything, including their academics. Looking good in leggings for History class seems to be a priority, along with catching parties and catnaps. Okay, maybe that was somewhat of an exaggeration. Yet, if there were four tables of students in the dining hall, two of them would be planning for a party, and two would be planning to go to the library. One of the latter two is only not going because the party costs $10. As far as politically aware... our students seem to be clueless (besides a minority of about 25{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}). Politically active? Catch a Twitter timeline of a Morgan student: eventually there will be some expletive preceding "the Republicans" or even our own "Obama" if they're REALLY opinionated. Other than that, activity remains minimal. A young attractive male would feel like a king at Morgan. The girls tend to spoil those. Any less attractive student of any race, gender, or ethnicity, might as well try another school.

Part of the reason I am thriving at Morgan State University is the environment created by fellow students. I have never experienced any division created by student groups. Most of my friends are leaders within their organizations and with our Sophomore President, Brian Stewart who is dedicated to strengthening school spirit, I am really looking forward to the upcoming semesters at Morgan. With regards to attire, we the students of the Graves School are leaders and we reflect that in the way we dress.
