Luther College Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about Luther College? Why?

Leslie

The worst thing about my school is it's location. The closest mall/civilization is an hour away, which is a pain when you really want Taco Bell at 11pm.

Sydnie

The worst thing about Luther College is that it is very far away from any large city. The closest large city is Rochester Minnesota, a one hour commute. Some students would say this makes them feel like they are cut off from the world, but other students would say they like being secluded because it creates the unique atmosphere for the school.

Felecia

The rising cost of tuition, and the decrease in financial aid.

Alison

The worst thing about Luther isn't so much about the school, it's about where it is. It's in Decorah, Iowa. About an hour to two hours away in every direction from a city. There is not much to do here, especially if you're not outdoorsy, and especially not in the winter. There are many trails and outdoor adventures you could take, but Decorah quiet. There is a 3-picture movie theatre, a bowling alley, and walmart. You either have to be creative or be willing to drive to have fun here.

Christopher

There is not a lot of school spirit. During sporting events not a lot of students attend. The town really supports Luther's athletic programs but the students do not really show their part in going to the games.

Katelyn

The overall stress and anxiety that looms over the students and professors concerning school work. Students are often pushed past their limits. There is often not enough time in the day to get everything done.

Elise

That our schedule is so different from all the other colleges around.

Sarah

Cost. Without my financial aid, I'd never get in and there is a chance I won't be able to attend next year due to lack of money, and will therefore never graduate or attend graduate school like I want to.

Cate

The town is cute but there is not enough to do on weekends. If you want to have fun, most of us go into Rochester, MN.

Jenna

Although it is absolutely beautiful in the Decorah area, there are limited opportunities outside of school-sponsored activities and nature-oriented activities to do. However, the school works very hard to bring in entertainment and other opportunities in order to challenge students as well as to provide activities that are non-alcohol related.
