What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Well to be honest I would tell my lazy butt to get up and do something!I was a notorious slacker in High School and hardly bothered to think about college because I figured that was so far away.My first year of college I was completely overhwhelmed that I had to rely on myself to get things done and no longer have teachers or counselors to tell you what to do and where to go.It's something they tell you constantly in High School and the stubborn bunch of us don't listen but that doesn't mean your life is over.At Laney I've been given a second chance and sometimes you don't get those.

What's unique about your campus?
Laney College is culturally diverse. Each day you see students and faculty from different backgrounds and it's very exciting to see this all going on in the middle of a crime-ridden city like Oakland. When I started taking classes at Laney I immediatly met all types of people but isn't that what America is all about. Each student, young or old, has a story and despite the stereoptypes of the area I've seen greatness arise from Laney College.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about this school is dealing with the admissions process. The lines in the admissions, financial aid and cashier's offices are always extremely long and time-consuming. One could spend almost up to an hour in one of their lines on a bad day :(

My classmates were very serious student, they had a goal in mind and they were willing to do what it took to achieve their degree. There were some that wasn't that serious. Far as I know they are still working hard at accomplishing their goals. They have plan on getting a better paid job. So that they can better take care of their family.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
I've only been at Laney for two semesters, and so far I know that there are lots of sports teams, a Muslim Students Association, a Black Student Union, and student government. I'm not involved in any groups. I don't see too many people dating, or I don't notice. I made my closest friends outside of school, but I've met a surprising amount of friendly people. Off campus, I usually take the BART one stop to 12th Street, City Center and get food or hang out at the park nearby.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
I don't think there's a common stereotype at Laney because everyone is so different! One thing I noticed, which is so strange to me on a college campus, is that everyone is always late to class. Even the professors. It bothers me so much.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating thing about my school was that It wasn't frustrating at all. I learned so much while I was attending college, I learned about myself and my ability and weakness. I learned that I was a leader and not a follower. I learned that I need to work on my listening skills, because I didn't give people enought time to finish their sentence when they were talking. Another thing that was frustrating was that I didn't realizes how special I was to other people, and how I made people happy being around me.
