I would actually tell myself to explore my own personal interests and really understand why, and what, I wished to learn. I had little experience with the world, and who I wanted to be in it, when I first got to college in 2009. This resulted in a lot of bad memories & poor grades my first few semesters. It was not until I took a break & transferred did I finally have enough time to figure out what I needed to do. Going to college was not just an education in formal studies, but it also gave me new perspectives I had never looked out of before. I have made my mistakes but now I have a much stronger opinion about what I want to learn. With this gained knowledge, I would tell my younger self to only take opportunities where learning feels good, positive, and fun. Forcing myself to explore interests that just are not interesting to me helps nobody, especially not myself.

If I could go back in time, I would tell my high school self to focus more on school. At that time, I never wanted to attend college and I completed a course my junior and senior year to obtain my cosmetology license. I thought that by doing this, I would not have to go to college. However, after doing cosmetology for a little while, I realized it was not my passion. I should have worried less about socializing with friends and focused on my future. At that time, my "future" seemed like so far away. This was not true! Time has flown by and if I had put more thought into my future while I was in high school, it would have made things much easier.

I would have told myself to take a semester or at least a year at Ivy Tech, so that i would have a stronger set of base grades and i could have found out exactly what i wanted to do in college. In doing it that way i would have saved a lot of money for my time.

As a senior in high school, I made many desisions that I wish I could go back and change. First off I picked very easy classes in my senior year, simply because I could. Looking back on those classes now makes me very upset that I wasted my free education to take easy classes and not get better educated in areas that I was not, just to get by with out having to do much. I also regret not trying my hardest in the classes that I was enrolled in. If I knew how it would effect me now, being in college, and not being able to receive grants or finacial help I am positive that I would have changed my lazy self. Wishing I could go back in time to tell myself on the first day of my senior year to switch out of those blow off classes your in and into something that will better educate you, and lastly to try your very hardest, even if that means spending less time with your friends and more time studying! If anything I have learned not to make these same mistakes in college.

If I could go back in time to talk to my high school senior self, I would tell myself not to worry about college. During my senior year in high school, I was worried about the transition from high school to college. I was not ready to move on. I did not know what I wanted my major to be. Being able to go back in time, I would tell myself that it is not as bad as you think. It is okay not knowing what your major will be. There is plenty of time and no reason to rush. It is also fine if you end up switching your major. Personally, I have switched twice, so far. And if your not ready for college, then do not go straight into college. Nobody is forcing you to go right into college after high school. I went into AmeriCorps, so I could volunteer and have more time to think about my major.
So there is no need to be so worked up with college. When you are ready then you should definitely go, but there is no rush.

After I graduated from high school in 1980, I chose not to attend college because I did not think I could do it. Over the years I ended up working at many jobs, but never made more than $20,000/year. In 2006, I began as a substitute teacher with my local school corporation; doing something I had wanted to try for years. Now, I finally found the career I should have had 25 years ago. This is what gave me the motivation to return to school. Attending a 2-year college was the best place for me to start. I could complete most all of my undergraduate general education studies there and then transfer to a 4-year college and finish up my degree program. Because I had the opportunity to attend college right out high school, and I did not do it, I now know I made the biggest mistake of my life. And if I could do it all over again, knowing what I know now, I would have gone to that 4-year college, completed my degree, and be making $50,000/year now. College is the best decision you could ever make in your life.

I would study more and get good grades. I wouldn't wait to the last minute to do things. I would be more focused and put more effort in my schoolwork. My most important thing would be taking advantage of the opportunities I was given for scholarships and money for school.

I would tell myself to secure funding for higher education because the american government wants white males to disapear in this country where as if I was any different nationality or gender I could secure funding easy as cake.

If I could go back in time and talk to myself in the past, I would let myself know that asking for help isn't a bad thing. Relationships aren't necessary at this age and you should cherish every second you get to see. I would tell myself that studies always come first, and don't forget that you don't have to work yourself into the ground. Family is too important and chasing the almighty dollar and having things of minimal value is not worth anything. Don't lose your friends because your afraid they might leave you, because not talking to them will force them to leave you. When times get tough, take a second and smile, because you can't change what happens to you, you can only change with the times. Always strive to be the best you, and don't get caught up in what the world thinks of you, because its what you think of you that really matters.
