Some of my professors are awful and I wonder how they even got hired, but I really like some.

Iowa State is a great school and best known for Engineering and Design - but you can find a lot of other majors at the school as well. I wish that counselors and staff would be more helpful in guiding students and showing them those options.

The academic opportunities at ISU are abundant. The professors are like most professors at other universities and if you wanted to get to know the professors you could, or you could opt to handle the class your own way. The professors were respectful and very knowledgable. There were a couple of professors that I spent time with outside of class and assisted with political campaigns. There are also many opportunities to help students understand the basics for finding a job, create a resume, etc.

Certain professors went out of their way to influence your career choices and offer advice. I'll always remember two professors who recognized my talent and tried to get me to take more classes in their field. I should have listened. Students study a lot and the library is the perfect spot in between classes. You can meet for group projects or find a quiet niche to be all alone. Classes were interactive and students definitely competitive...but also collaborative. I changed my major 4 times and ended up in the business college studying finance. If I could do it all over, I would have selected somethig in English or Speech or perhaps architecture. The business college isn't well regarded outside of ISU and it is not an asset on my resume when pursuing a job. Fortunately, I have many experiences gained from ISU and have a fabulous job working for one of the best companies in the world! I work for GE.

I think the art programs at State are top notch. I felt very close to all my professors there, even if it was for only a semester. I felt like they really cared about my goals and they were really interested in what I was all about. I would email them about anything and wouldnt even think twice about it. They would respond back to me with what I needed and it wasnt a computer generated kind of response...they really were there to help me. I still email my professors even now when I've been out of school for almost a year. I like telling them the amazing things I'm able to do in the "real world" because without them, I definitely would not be where I am now.

I was a community and public health major. The program was difficult. I feel I got a great education, and once you get into your sophomore year your class sizes get quite smaller. Yes most of my professors knew my name, I rarely skipped class. The only thing I wish I would have known is a lot of the jobs I wanted after graduation require a registered nurse degree, and no one told me that as far as advisors or faculty.

The nutrition program is one of the best in the country and that is why I chose ISU

ISU is great! Great rep everything! Classes were small enough within your specific major. The general classes were just weed out classes. Every student I meet worked hard and work well with a team.

Some of my professors know my name - depends on the class size. Students study pretty often. Class participation depends on the class and the teacher. Students are somewhat competitive. My major is engineering and I love my advisor, Deb Dewall. She is SO helpful!

Many professors at ISU know my name. The amount of large classes to smaller classes is a good ratio. I enjoy being known by my professors and feel it's easier to participate in class and learn better when the class size is smaller. Students are competative but that only makes me strive to do my best even more. Outside of class I occassionally spend time with my professors. I have met up with my english teacher outside of class to get tips on a paper, also I have met with my old design teacher on many occassions for help on projects. Professors make themselves very available to give help and it's a nice feeling knowing I can go to them for help. I feel good about the ISU academic requirements, I feel if I apply myself to my schooling that getting the gpa that the school as well as the gpa that the sorority wants isn't hard to achieve. I learn very well at ISU in the environment provided.
