Describe the students at Iowa State University.

Sarah

ISU is very close-minded and segregated. Students are not active and involved.

Blake

Our student body is varied for the most part. I wear sweats to class, but there are many who do shower and dress up before attending their 8 ams.

Brandi

Really diverse in all of those aspects... we have everything from different races, different religions, sexual preferences, past times, hobbies, everything! If you're looking for something to get involved with, it's pretty easy. I don't know where most ISU students are from but I would say Iowa and Illinois if I had to pin point. I do know lots of students from outside of this area though.

Danielle

I went to a GSB meeting once and it was awesome to see how concerned they were and just so focused on making things on campus as good as they could be. They try so hard and dedicate so much of their time to making sure that we are all happy and get the entertainment, needs and wants of EVERYONE.

Paige

There are tons of groups for every culture, race, religion, and belief. However, the bulk of people are middle class Iowans. Students from large cities or chicago suburbs will definitely feel a culture shock. I've realized that most studets from large areas like this tend to stick together! The campus is very conservative and most students (mainly those from iowa) plan to settle in Iowa after college.

Tristan

Most students are middle-class caucasion but we do have a higher diversity level than a lot of mid-western schools. To be honest, I don't think any type of student would feel uncomfortable. There are a lot of multi-cultural student organizations and awareness groups.

Liz

I'm so happy to see that ISU is very diverse. I feel that each generation is being exposed to more and more cultures so that hopefully prejudices and racial issues will decrease. Any kind of student can feel out of place at ISU. It's all about them being out of their comfort zone, and it might take them a while to get used to it. Right now, with it being cold outside, most people wear jeans, hoodies, and their winter coats to class. I think most students interact with each other in study groups or assignments for class. I don't go to the dining hall, so I wouldn't know what type of students are there. All four tables are eating and talking. Most of the ISU students seem to be from Iowa. I see lots of foreign students, and I think the more, the merrier. I don't see much of a difference between the financial backgrounds. All my friends and I have our financial troubles. I have no clue about the political backgrounds of our students. We don't talk about how much money we hope to be making one day. We just hope we'll have enough to live and pay back our loans.

Lisa

Iowa State is fairly well diversified, at least for Iowa standards. It seems like most students come from a middle-class background in the midwest. Things are pretty low-key here and no one feels compelled to dress up for class (unless there is a presentation).

Theresa

I am not involved with many religious groups i have gone to church at school. students are seperated by money, if they are in band, greek life, honors classes and majors. students are always talking about money.

jessica

Fashion student dress up, but for the most part sweaties and hoodie to class. Sometimes you might see people dressed up but thats mostly for an interview or something important. I like everyone could find their place at Iowa state! There is so many clubs and things to do that you can fit right in. Most ISU students are from small towns. Many of their parents were famers. there are some students that are politically active and aware.
