I have to disagree with everyone being rich. Just because students attend an expensive university does not make us rich. But as for partying, IU is very good at that.

There are quite a few parties every weekend, but for the most part, people get their work done and do fairly well in their classes. I would say we have a "work hard, play hard" motto.

No- while there are quite a few students here that do enjoy the party scene, you will find that at any college, and most here seem to have a good balance between work and play. The students here are knowledgeable about their chosen fields and are here because IU has outstanding programs in business, journalism, linguistics, pre-medicine, etc... almost anything you can think of.

Many affluent people attend IU and completely take out the amount of hicks. Bloomington is a very diverse place, definitely not in the boondocks. The girls and some guys can be very intimidating at some times, however, get past the scales and they aren't so bad.

I think that there are some stereotypes concerning the Greek community that are very true, but as a whole Indiana University-Bloomington is such a hodge podge, melting pot of people that you can't stereotype just one group. We have so many people from different areas of the US, different areas of the globe, from various cultures that it's hard to narrow anything down to just one all conclusive group.

Well, there are a lot of Jewish students at IU, but there are a lot of all sorts of everyone too. Every kind of person you could think of is at IU, and all the students are pretty laid back and love to have a good time.

While IU is consistently rated as one of the top party schools in the nation, we also have several top programs. Our music school usually contends with Juliard for the top school in the country. Our business school is currently ranked fifth out of all state business schools, and our foreign language department is one of the most highly-ranked programs in the country. A large portion of the IU student body comes from out of state. While the majority of students are from Indiana, we also have a large foreign population.

No. I heard this from a kid coming to visit once and thought it was pretty funny. We do not party in cornfields and while Indiana has a lot of cornfields the Bloomington area is actually a college town. There are bars, frats, and house parties.

It is a party school, but there are so many people that you can find something to do besides party if you want to. Greek life does dominate the social scene. The academics are amazing, and it's actually pretty tough if you choose a real major. Within your major, you'll meet people, and there are many clubs to join, which makes campus smaller. You don't meet anyone in classes though.
