The heritage and history is very rich and inspiring.

The administration and facilities are a joke. Most of the teachers are great and very passionate about teaching, though they're not necessarily the best-connected in their fields. I ended up going here for financial reasons and I can see why it's half the price of most private universities. (Beggars can't be choosers, I guess.) If you're smart, you'll seek internship opportunities outside the university. There are a lot of opportunities in the DC area-- just don't expect Howard U. to help you connect with any of them.

Howard University is a great school for our future leaders to grow. I've never been to another campus where the students have such a thirst for knowledge that they will create their own student-led class (Howard's Educational Revolution aka H.E.R.). I love my school, the student body, and the many extra-curricular activities and opportunities it offers.

We are an HBCU (Historically Black College University) so we have a student and faculty population that is predominantly black. This presents a different outlook on the world as well as a different college experience. You arent a minority at Howard, you're apart of the majority and for once it feels like you have a voice that can be heard and opinions that matter.

It's located in the chocolate city (D.C.) and there are plenty of opportunities.

As I mentioned, I left the University for personal reasons and would not deter anyone from going who is interested. All I would like an interested student to do first, is to heavily explore the schools they are interested in. Visit the campuses if possible, take virtual tours, ask others, call, do what is necessary to find out as much as you can, because they will be important years in your life. I transferred and left behind a lot of memories; Disappointed in some respects and not so much in others. I have given an accurate perspective as a significantly involved and extremely proud former student of the University. If you would like to know anything else, please feel free to contact me, granted my email address is posted.
P.S.
I changed my major, because the University I transferred to does not offer Insurance as a major.
Best Wishes!
Marie
I can actually write a book about my life experiences at Howard University but frankly, I need to get paid for that serious writing. Are you going to pay me?
