Gardner-Webb University Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Rebekah

I wish I had known what an amazing time I would have at Gardner-Webb. The first two weeks of college were possibly the worse two weeks of my life. Adjusting to a new place, not knowing anyone, and starting college classes was almost too much. I thought about giving up, but I didn't. I stuck it out for a semester and am so glad I did. Gardner-Webb is like a second home to me. The staff are so kind, I have made wonderful friends, and I even LOVE the classes that I took my first semester.

Which Univeristy 111 professor to have.

kaitlyn

I wish I would have known that tuition was only going to increase, and extra help would not be given. I also wish I would have known that I wouldn't get any more scholarship for achieving academic success.

Trista

I wish I had known that my professors want to hear from me. I say this because in my first year, I did not use office hours or email to communicate with my professors and since I have learned how helpful it is, my grades and involvement on campus have increased dramatically. I also wish I had known that it is okay to not know exactly what you want to do when starting college. After changing my major three times, I am content with my decision and I do not regret trying out different fields of study.

I wish I had known more about the financial aid options. Gardner-Webb is very expensive, and they just do not offer very many scholarships through the University itself. However, they do have a facebook page that lists many scholarships that can be applied for outside the University. I wish I had known about that sooner so I could have applied for more of those scholarships and not be so behind on paying for school.

What our dorm rooms look like, what happens on the weekends, and that you need a car to get every where you need to go.

Hannah

Before I came to Gardner-Webb University I wish that someone had told me that college is a place to confirm and grow who you are as a person and not a place to pretend and be someone that you are not. You are blessed with these four years of your life to establish yourself in society apart from your parents. This time should not be wasted chasing after someone you will never be.

Before coming to this school, I wish I had known about other schools and had other choices, because I mainly came to this school for athletic reasons, although it is a good school academically. I am happy that it is located in North Carolina because it is a gorgeous state with great weather most of the time.

Lisa

I wish I had known that I was going to have the time of my life at this school because I was so worried about what might happen. It turns out that all my worrying was for nothing. After adjusting for the first week or so, things are wonderful!

I wish that I had known more of who I was before I attended Gardner-Webb, it would have changed some of my attitudes away from my more provincial up-bringing. I have become far less conservative and judgemental towards people, which I believe would have helped me to be a better person and relate to people better when I first arrived.
