What's unique about your campus?

Stephanie

It's history and tradition. Seminole pride is something that is taken very seriously at FSU and it's truly beautiful to be surrounded by that all the time. You can see it in the architecture, in our spirit gear, and even in the statues around campus. Honestly, it's hard to even describe. It's something that's best experienced first hand. But if you could only have 2 images of the school to show how unique it really is, there are two that I would suggest. The first is seeing Osceola and Renegade ride onto the field before a home football game. Both are dressed in full Seminole Tribe regalia, with Osceloa holding the flaming spear high above his head. Renegade is absolutely magnificent, and the whole spectacle is one of our most cherished traditions. Seeing that in person is what made me fall in love with everything that FSU is. I would also suggest that you go to the Westscott fountain at sunset. The history that you can see so plainly in the beautiful architecture there is breathtaking. From there you can walk down to Dodd Hall, and down to Suwannee dining hall. This section of campus is historic and gorgeous, and makes the past of Florida State Tangible.

I do love Seminole Sensation Week, because FSU can usually get some decent celebrities for the first week of classes, like Craig Ferguson. There's so many activities and opportunities for free or super cheap food (Breakfast for a Buck), oxygen bars, chalking contests, movies on Landis Green, that unless you just hate living, you'll find something to enjoy. My favorite spot to kind of relax and sit around is definitely either the Union Green or the courtyard behind the Student Life Cinema (free movies). It's quiet, no one's ever there, and there's a big tree or benches to sit on. I think my school stands out because it's not all clinical concrete: the atmosphere is very organic, and there's a lot of nature that the school tries to put in every little space. You never feel like you're walking around this huge, ancient school, but somewhere warm where you actually WANT to be. Basically it's all very pretty.

Florida State University is located in a very diverse area. Financial status varies, there are many of campus activities to take advantage of and school spirit is very high. Students are very accepting and easy to get along with. Professors are great and treat their students like young professionals preparing for the workforce, rather than kids fresh out of high school.

The way everyone from different stereo groups get along and our desire to be successful. Everyone comes together for the Seminoles and has great things to say about their time spent at this school. Not just on campus but around town people always run into someone they know.

FSU is one of the two Universities in the nation to have its own particle accelerator, so all of you physics buffs, get excited!

Besides having the oldest brick structure in the U.S, FSU's uniqueness is how it's the center of the city, how the parking can't contain the growing population of the school, and how it has extra requirements that no one really tells you about in the beginning. I couldn't really find a place for it anywhere else, so I'll just put it here. If your major is through the college of arts and science, you will have take up a 3rd level of a language, which is 1 more than the normal requirement for languages of other colleges, departments and universities. Additionally, these language classes have strict attendance policies and occur 3 times a week most of the time. This can be difficult for scheduling, trying to get into the class you need since they are mostly full. Take this into consideration when choosing this school, a major in arts and sciences, and which language.

The best thing about Florida State University is the resources available to students to help them succeed. Staff is friendly and professors are helpful. Tutoring is available in every subject at every hour of the day. When I needed my counselor, she was available and well-equipped to help me explore all possibilities to help me choose a major that fits.

It's close to home for me. So I'm able to get my school work done and make sure that my parents have what they need.

I love how Florida State has a lot of people and so many different clubs, activities, things to do. But on the other hand, it is also a relatively small, very managable campus. One is able to get the full "state college" experience without being overwhelmed or out of place.

The quality of the professor's and our research progress.
