First make sure that the school has what you want to study, second make sure that you visit the school so you know the environment, third talk to someone who is attending and has attended the school so you know what to prepare for when you get there, fourth compare the cost to other schools because some times less cost may mean a better learning enviornment and experience.

The advice that I would give parents and/or students about finding the right college would be first thing first, make sure you want to go to college because college isn't for everyone. Look up schools that interests you and that offer your intended major, and if possible tour the campus. If you do plan on going to college make sure you find a college that suits you, because if you don't like the environment, then you're not going to want to be there. The advice I would give on making the most of the college experience would be to get involved. Join clubs or organizations that interest you. Attend the school events, make friends and to have fun, but stay focused.

Gregory

I would tell them that its in your best interest to spend a couple days around the campus, ask a lot of questions to staff and especially to students, and get a precise ballpark of how much finacial aid can be offered. You also want to attend a University where you can see room for change and expression of ones self.

I would tell students to stay true to who they are and their standards that their parents instilled in them. No matter what college they decide to attend (i.e a party school, a liberal college, or a top of the line college) to stay focus and to not allow the type of environment that they maybe in, to sway what they are there for. Your college years can be some of your best years of your life or it can be a nightmare, its all up to you. Learn to manage your time well and you will be successful.
