So far in my college career at ECU, I am not only being taught classes that pertain to my major, but courses that help me become well rounded. If you are open to learning, you will achieve a greater depth in any course you take than you ever expected. Of all the North Carolina colleges and universities, ECU is the least expensive. With that being said, the quality of education is excellent. Professors are accessible, tutoring is free, the campus is absolutely beautiful, financial aid is great, and the opportunities to get involved in any organization are limitless. For my money, I am getting what I wished for and then some!

I have gotten a lot out of my college experience because being 500 miles away from home; I’ve learned how to grow up and be more mature and live on my own. I had to take on the responsibilities of time management. Also, taking out student loan after loan, strives me to push myself to the farthest I can go to capture the grade I am capable of. Yes there are late nights and early mornings, but I tell myself every day that it will pay off. It has been valuable to attend this University because it is a well-known teaching college in North Carolina and because I’ve met a lot of great people along the way. I also get to cheer for the University and travel to different colleges. It is nice to be able to see a little bit of the country while I can. With this scholarship, it would help me attend grad school and pursue my degree as becoming a Special Education teacher, and it would benefit my students in the long run.

My college experience has helped me determine what direction my life needs to take. I have been a student on and off for the last eight years, and I have found that it takes some of us a little longer to find their direction. If I had not been able to attend and sort through the topics I enjoy, I would not have been able to make that final crucial decision of what I want to do. College has opened my eyes to my own likes and dislikes and has helped me become the woman I am today by helping me discover who that woman is. I am not the typical college student and what worked for me might not work for others, but it has been benefical and enlightening process.

The biggest thing I have learned from college is to be more independent. I liked living at home and having it easy. It's so different now that I have to do things on my own and be accountable for myself. My mom and dad aren't there to help me out. I make my own schedule and am learning to be responsible with my time. I have to pay for my own groceries, which was a shock because they are so expensive! The weird thing is as hard as it is sometimes to be making a life for myself on my own, I like the fact that I can do it. When I was back home over fall break I realized I love the independence of being on my own.

My college experience has been unique. Not only have I gained educational wisdom, but personal wisdom as well. East Carolina has helped me realize the person I want to become. When I entered college, I did it to appease those around me. Since being here, I have learned the personal and social value of education. I even decided to expand my knowledge and choose a double-major. I believe that East Carolina has introduced me to some of the most exceptional people I have ever met. I have learned what it's like to have a true friend, and how to be one as well. Socialization is important. Seeing the entire student body come together on game days was a true joy of life. The comraderie of the students supporting the team they chose was not only exciting, but gave an unmistakeable sense of belonging. Education and sporting events are merely one aspect of the college experience, the other is learning how to be an honest, responsible, and generous individual. East Carolina has helped me reach all of my goals, whether educational, social, or personal.
