Being in the middle of downtown Charleston is great! And expensive. The school is a good size, especially class size. There is absolutely no school spirit and not your average college experience.

I think the best thing about the school is the location and size. You have the beach 20 minutes away. You have a great downtown with a million things to do. It's like living in New York city, but prettier, easier to manage and easier to meet people. The school is small enough that you aren't overwhelmed in classes and feel as though you can actually meet people, but big enough that it isn't high school all over again where everyone knows your every move.
Overall, C of C is probably the best thing that has ever happened to me. I would reccomend it to everyone and anyone. I applied to seven schools and got into two and C of C was on the bottom of my list. I have never been happier with the result. It is by far the best experience I have ever had.

I love the size. Not too big but just big enough so you can get a diverse group of friends of you want them. Not to small either, you don't run into the same person over and over again, you can transition groups without a problem.
This is totally a college town! So much to do, and the beach is only 10 min. Perfect~
People always say, Oh, I know so and so that goes to CofC and they love it! - You never hear, so and so hated it and transferred.
I guess the parking situation is the most frequent complaint. Parking is super expensive but in the last year or so they got the bus system going and you can get around on that. The free cab rides are cool too.

The best thing about CofC is the location and weather. It is located in such a perfect town...there are amazing shops, resteraunts, bars, museums etc. The houses are gorgeous, and after freshman year most people rent out houses with their friends. Dont let the charmming quaint town fool you. Charleston can get dangerous at night because after all it is a city. As long as you pay attention and are alert you should be fine.
The classes and teachers are awesome...it wasn't a hard adjustment from my private school. If you are looking for school spirit, dont come here...sports aren't big at all.
I am from the north and it was a little hard adjusting to the southerners....its different.

Whenever I tell people I attend the College of Charleston, their first reaction is usually jealousy! Everyone loves to visit Charleston, but I get to live there and experience everything it has to offer all year long! It is a wonderful place with so much to do, not only in the tourist summer months, but also during the school year. And if all else fails, the beach is 5 minutes away!

When I first tell people I go to the College of Charleston their immediate reaction is why would you want to go to a Liberal Arts College? and my response is why not? At the College you will experience a lot and grow academically in all aspects of the world. Being a Liberal Arts College exposes you to different learning styles, and definately seperates us from any other four year university. The College of Charleston has roughly 10,000 students and your classroom size is small to medium. It is really easy to build a relationship with your professor instead of being another number. The College has great resources to help you with anything you need. The College does not want you to fail and offers plenty of tutors and outside classroom help! This is a really good thing especially when you are having trouble grasping a concept. At this time the College of charleston is going through a lot of great changes. Currently we are building a new multi-million dollar gym, a new science center, and a new Arts center. Each of these new addictions benefits everyone at the College of Charleston! The only bad thing about this construction right now is the traffic can get kinda of heavy and the constant noise during class can be a bit distracting! Other than that everyone is really excited about the upcoming changes. The College of Charleston is just great!

One of the main attractions of C of C is the setting. The campus is absolutely gorgeous, especially the Cistern and Randolph Hall. The Battery and Waterfront Parks take only a nice walk or jog to get to. I and many other students run, walk, or bike all over Charleston because the weather and scenery are usually beautiful. Charleston has plenty to do; it's really involved in the arts with lots of galleries, concerts, plays, and exhibitions. Just going on a walk and taking pictures like a tourist of the architecture and plant life is fun as well as laying out or playing Frisbee, football, soccer in Marion Square.
It is expensive to live in Charleston. Restaurants and rent have pretty high prices especially in the nice parts of town (like near King Street, etc.) so lots of students work part-time. There are cheaper places to live but it's usually in the less well-groomed parts of Charleston. Finding a reasonable place to live off-campus is difficult. And since Charleston's a tourist city, prices are jacked up. And there are always, always tourists around.
C of C is just big enough that there are different people but not so huge that a student will feel lost in the social life or academics.
The administration is trying to listen to student concerns although it seems a little bureaucratic at times. The SGA is really involved in listening to students and getting things done for them; it just doesn't have a lot of support.
The biggest student complaint is the cost-of-living and then construction. We're perpetually tripping on bricks. People around campus are woken up or class/tests are disturbed by pile-driving. It seems like the College is always building something.

The best thing about C of C is the location. Charleston is such a beautiful town and it's a good place to be on your own at. The school size is just right, a little over 10,000 students. The good thing about the campus is that it is in the center of downtown, and so you can walk anywhere and going out with friends to clubs is easy. Also, there is a lot of room to spend peaceful times in the sun. There isn't enough school pride, though. I would definately change that if I could.

I love the size of CofC. I came from a small private school so I did not want to attend a huge school, but I also wanted to avoid a school that was too small. With about 10,000 students, I feel that CofC is just the right size. The campus is also just the right size. I like how you can get anywhere on campus in about 5 minutes, and it is also a beautiful location with so much to offer. In my free time, I usually talk walks downtown around the battery and the pier, or even hang out in Marion square. The administration at CofC is very helpful. The class sizes are just right and the teachers can easily be reached via email and office hours. They also are very personable and most know the students by their names. As far as school pride goes, there is not as much as there is at a larger school that has a football team. Basketball season is when there is the most schools pride.
