What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Brooke

I don't feel that the student activities are attending very much by the student population. On a saturday night you can find most students out at the bars.

Frats and sororities are not big on campus, but are seen. Ducks Unlimited, Student Finance, Christian groups, etc. Dorm doors being left open depend on which dorms, but usually no. Athletic events need to be publicized more to increase attendance, only men basketball games are huge attendants. THere are always speakers here and theater productions or concerts. Dating scene- lots of girls-and pretty girls- guys get a lot of dates. Large gay population too. My closest friends are people I have lived with through dorms, and their friends, and so on. I am probably procrastinating, or watching tv, I am usually up late alot so its not uncommon. Each year, huge mud fight, basketball homecoming, beach day (unofficial-reading day in spring)- habitat for humanity. People usually party 3 nights a week. Last weekend I worked, and went to a concert. No drinking of a Saturday might involve a movie, working, or a concert.

Social like @ Cofc isn't that of many of the other colleges I have seen. Unless you are involved with Greek life, then I don't think that there is much to do.

I don't know what the most popular organization on campus would be. I am involved with a sorority and a campus ministry. There are only 35{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of students on campus. As far as the dorms go, people generally leave their doors closed. Athletics events are not very popular. I would say less than 1000 students would go to the biggest basketball game of the season. Most partying happens at house partys. At 2am on a Tuesday, I am probably studying. Last weekend was Spring Break and I went home. On Saturday nights I typically go out to dinner and then go over to a friends house and hang out.

Sports teams and sororities and fraternities. I am involved in Kappa Delta Sorority and I love being able to get involve and obtain leadership positions within it. Students in dorms don't leave there doors open. I love going to athletic events and guest speakers but i think they could be talked up more on campus. I met m,y closest friends through kappa delta and campus outreach. If i'm up until 2 on Tuesday I'm doing homework. Traditions/ events are st.patrick's day and halloween. People party a lot and I feel like sororities and fraternities are a big part of cofc. CAB does a good job planning alternative activties than drinking.

Greek life is popular but not overwhelming. There is definitely room to meet non greeks. I am involved in phi sigma pi. it is a lot of fun to meet all types of people who are academically stimulated and not just drunk 24/7. in my dorm, people do not leave their doors open. it is really hard to meet others. athletic events are not opular. you can find a few people there but not many. the dating scene is unfortunate. Most guys can get any girls they want because southern girls are "easy" girls on the other hand have a disadvantage because there are few guys there.

There are several Greek orgs. on campus, but not everyone is in one by any means. There are lots of clubs and other organizations to get involved in too outside of class. I am in Phi Sigma Pi (the co-ed Honors frat...fun stuff). The dorms are cool...so much better than what I thought college was like. I am excited about moving off of campus in two months tho. There really isn't much interest in sports here besides the ppl that are actually on the teams themselves. Basketball is the biggest sport here. There are always guest speakers and theatre productions. The dating scene is good for just about anything that fits you. I met my closest friends from class and my frat. If I was awake at 2am on a Tues I am prob. writing a paper at the last minute. Thur-Sat nights are the nights to go out. This weekend I worked, worked on a project, went to the movies with a friend and went out for drinks last night...nothing big. The school sponsors events on Fri. nights for those with nothing else to do.

Social life at C of C is insane. There are so many groups to participate in, and just not enough time. We have fraternities, sororities, religious groups (Campus Outreach, Catholic Association, BCM), political clubs (Darfur, SGA, Invisibile Children), volunteer clubs (Habitat for Humanity), etc. Atheletic events are very well attended. Basketball games and soccer games are the most popular. We do not have a football team, but the nearest football events are only an hour and a half away in Columbia, the state's capital. If you're not interested in any of the college's extracurricular events (although that would be pretty crazy, since they're always interesting and fun)...the city has so much to offer! We have the Music Farm and Johnson's Pub for concerts, Nappy Roots was just here last week for one and so were the Ying-Yang Twins. Downtown also has rooftop bars, upperscale restaurants, cooking courses, harbor cruises, ghost tours, carriage rides, and much, much more! Also, only 25 mins away, we have the North Charleston Coliseum...with ice-hockey games, musicals, country concerts, blue collar comedy tour, etc.

One of the most popular organizations is SGA (Student Gov. Association), along with Campus Crusades, all of the greek affiliations, Charleston 40, Student Alumni Association, just to name a few. Athletic events aren't as popular here because we don't have a football team, but we have pretty big turnouts for our basketball games. While tons of CofC students date, since there are a lot more girls than guys, a lot of the girls date Citadel cadets, which is the mostly male school right by CofC. I met most of my close friends through rushing a sorority and through classes. One big tradition is the graduation in the Cistern each year, all the girls wear white dresses and carry a daisy and the men wear white tuxes. People party a good bit here, from house parities to the numerous bars downtown. Greek life prominent at CofC, but only around 15{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the student body is involved in it, so you can definitely fit in and have a good time without being in a sorority/frat.
