Castleton University is now known as Vermont State University. They changed their name due to a merger and this occurred before I started attending the school. This school is predominantly white and can do better to increase the amount of BIPOC students who attend. However, the quality of the education is good and the school prioritizes equality within the black and lgbtq+ community to make for a safer environment for everyone.

I lived on the Killington campus and only really participated in Killington culture. When I joined the program, it quickly became clear there's two camps of students who attend. The first are interested in business management and want to get into the resort industry. The second are ski/bike bums whose parents are making them get a degree. Both groups can succeed here, so it depends on what you're looking for.

Although I am an Early College student, and am unsure of whether I will stay at Castleton, I will say that the overall feeling of the campus is phenomenal. For a small university, there are many opportunities that await. During my first semester, I participated in a horsemanship class, allowing me to experience an activity I otherwise would have never been able to partake in. There are some improvements that could be made, such as food and on-campus housing; however, overall, Castleton is a university I definitely recommend considering!
