The advice I would give parents and students when it comes to finding the right college is find a school especially those students who will be living at home find a school thats not too far home but where students can still come over for dinner, wash clothes, and come over for the holidays. Also, finding a school close to home can help on gas since the gas prices continues to rise. Students who decide to live on campus want to find a school that has affordable housing and nice rooms with enough space for roomates and their guest. Parents and students should also take a tour of the college to make sure that it is safe and has enough emergency phones around and that that there are facilities to help students who may need tutoring in certain subjects, need to acess the internet and print for free, and a study hall for students to study comfortably. Students should also want to find a college with school spirit with plenty of clubs, organizations, and fairs so they can enjoy their college experience and meet new people and make new friends.

Make sure to visit the campus and ask questions that will make you feel comfortable about the choice you make.

I think that the best way to discover what you really want is by attending a community college first. Going to a community college first eased me into college life after high school. During my time in community college I discovered what I wanted to be while completing my general education that didn't cost me a fortune. I was also very active on campus which led me to enjoy campus life much more, I think joining a club or participating in activities on campus makes college a better experiece. When active on campus you get to meet new people and make memories. Going to a community college first also takes a lot of pressure off of students financially and in high school, you have time to really think about your choices and decisions you are about to make. Transfering out of a community college into a University is also less stressfull, from what I was told transfer students usually have a better chance at getting accepted to their school of choice. Overall the best advice I'd give is to take school seriously but take the time to enjoy it as well.

I suggest that parents take into consideration the acedmics of every university that a student is considering. If a parent wants his or her child to have a good education, that parent should make sure that the professors at the university that his or her son or daughter is attending actually cares about the well being of that student. The student who is looking at various schools should take into account what he or she would be doing in his or her spare time and look at what each university offers for extracurricular activities, as well as social affairs. What both the parent and student should look at most importantly is the overall acedemic quality of each university before choosing which one to attend.

College is very much what you make it. In many situations people focus on the schools popularity and wealth. Harvard, Yale, UCLA, and many other expensive schools do not mean they are the best. Every person is different and every school will benefit a person differently. When choosing a school think about YOUR personal needs and wants in a school. Do you want to be close to home, do you want to pay loans after you graduate, do you want to be apart of a large school population? These questions are very important. One month before getting ready to leave for college reality hit me and I realized the school I was about to go to was a school I wanted to go because it had a beautiful campus and that was honestly the ONLY reason. I was going to spend over 60,000 a year on tuition and housing when I didn't even know what I wanted to major in. I then contacted another school who accepted me and decided to go to a school that offered what i wanted ,small classes and reasonable tuition,while I figured out what my career plans were.

To ensure that you are comfortable make sure you select the school based on the above mentioned items rather than the name of the school. When selecting a college, look for things that go beyond just the image of the university. Find a college that fits you (the student) and your parents, financialy, distance wise, educationally, and size. You should always visit the college and see if you could see yourself amoung those students. Becuase regardless of the schools reputation, if it doesn't fit you as a person, you won't be happy there. College years are something you will remember forever so make sure you choose wisely. Also make sure that the school focus on your major is signifigant, because it could be the worlds most known school but if it doesn't have a good program in your focus, it does you no good.

The advice I would give parents and students about finding the right college and enjoying the college experience would be to choose a college that best suits your needs and standards. Find a college that not only supports your major, but also opens the doors for other opportunities you might be interested in just in case you would like to change your major. The college experience is one of the most important events any student can have in their entire life. Experiencing life in the dorms is a great way to enhance your college experience because it's one way you can develop social skills and life long relationships. Most importantly you should have fun while you're learning; one key factor that I learned throughout my college career was that you make the experiences, they don't make you.
