What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
As a student at Assumption College, I have learned and suffered the hardships of college life. There are many instances where I wished to change my decisions, yet there is only one advice left to give. If I could have a discussion with my High school self, I would emphacize the importance of taking more advantage of the opportunities and resources provided by the shool. Much like many students, I valued my social life sometimes more than I should have. If I could give one piece of advice it would be to buckle up and give it my best, instead of focusing on becoming a social butterfly. School should always come first as one's innermost key to a successful future. I believe it is not who you know that matters, but the knowledge gained in one's journey. In this world, no one can take away someone's knowledge, however; materialistic objects can be lost. My past self should focus on being the best she could be and not worrying about the pressures of college life. Success is often achieved by those who opt to take the road less traveled towards a bright future, not the easy way out.

What's unique about your campus?
The best thing about my school is it's size. It's a very small school, and thus, you get to know the majority of people who go to school there. There is also a much more personal relationship with professors you couldn't experience in a larger school. You know most of them on a personal level, and they know who you are. Being in such close proximity to everyone is good for making new friends and learning about everything.

What kind of person should attend this school?
Since this college is a Catholic based liberal arts school, most of the students here are of the Catholic faith. I believe that a person who has had a high school which is college oriented would do very well here. It certainly helps to be friendly and outgoing because most of the students, as well as the professors are that way. I think that if you are looking for a very good liberal arts education, Assumption College should be your choice. There are numerous opportunities here to succeed in whatever field in which you plan to have a career.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
It is small enough to know almost everyone, to get to know the professors one on one and to get a tutor to help you out. The location is great it is surrounded by beatiful houses and the best part of Worcester. Assumption is impecable and always has beautiful gardens so eventhough it is a school there is still wildlife. Wild turkeys often visit the driveways and there are secluded wooded areas. The gate keepers are also an added sense of security. The school is great academically as well as socially. No fraternity or hazing. Great school!

What is your overall opinion of this school?
Assumption College is absolutely amazing! I love every little part about it whether it is the professors or the school spirit we have. We have the nicest students and the smartest professors here on campus. The faculty are always around to help, whether it be in their office or even if they are just walking around campus. They know your name usually by the second day of class because they want to. They want to get that face to name recognition so they are able to know you as a person. Even though Assumption is a small school, containing 2,500 undergrads, it feels bigger than that. Our campus is about one mile all around and it is set on 185 acres of land. For me it was the perfect size. Our regular class sizes are 25 students and we never have more than 40 students per class. I knew I wanted a smaller school without crazy lecture halls with 300 students in them and Assumption only has three lecture halls which has about 30 students in them per class! When I tell people that I go to Assumption College their first reaction is usually "I've heard great things about Assumption? Do you love it?" and my answer is always yes! It is an awesome place which I never want to leave.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
Honestly, there are so many clubs and activities at Assumption, and such a wide variety of them, that I do not think there is necessarily a most popular one. There are clubs for academics, the visual and performing arts, honors societies, media publications, politics and government, volunteering, athletics, and spirituality. As for myself, I am involved in numerous groups and activities on campus. I am on the Assumption College Dance Team, the student theatre club Merely Players, Assumption Disability Awareness Promotion Team (A.D.A.P.T.), and in the Honors Program. In the past, I have also been a part of the Latin Dance Club, Peers Advocating Wellness for Students (PAWS), and I was in last year’s spring musical Children of Eden. Besides all the different clubs that are offered at Assumption, there are numerous events and traditions that occur on campus. There are sporting events such as football and basketball games, Family Weekend, Siblings Weekend, the annual Spring Concert, the Winter and Spring Balls for juniors and seniors, and many Bingo nights throughout the year. There are also trips off campus, comedians and musicians that come to Assumption to display their talents, and showings of popular movies. If one weekend you do want to get off campus, there is a shuttle system called the WOO Bus that takes Assumption students, as well as students of other colleges in Worcester, to various places in and around the city. These places include Shrewsbury Street, which plays host to some of Worcester’s best restaurants and night life, The Shoppes at Blackstone Valley, and Solomon Pond Mall. As you can see, it is extremely difficult to be bored when you attend Assumption College.

What are the academics like at your school?
The academics at Assumption are very strong. I am only a second semester sophomore, and I feel as if I have already learned so much from the different courses I have taken. As I mentioned before, Assumption is a school that is made up of small classes. Hence, each of the professors knows us students by name and on a personal level. I believe that this is a major advantage because it gives off the impression that the professors really take an interest in teaching the students. It also shows that the professors are willing to make sure that the students comprehend what is being taught. As a result of the professors and students being so close, class participation is very common in each and every one of the courses. In fact, in the classes I’ve taken at Assumption, a significant percentage of the final grade is dedicated solely to class participation. However, the amount that is required is extremely rewarding and worthwhile, as they cause interesting discussions to occur between the professor and the students. Sometimes, these discussions even continue outside the classroom amongst the students. Most importantly, though, is that education at Assumption is geared toward getting a job once you graduate. In these tough economic times, the professors and administration recognize that they need to produce members of society that are knowledgeable in their field as well as employable. A lot of Assumption’s students receive jobs upon finishing their studies. Because of this, it is easy to see that the academics at Assumption are extremely strong.
