k what's the best thing about ASU? all the choices - classes, majors, places to live, ways to get around, people. one thing i'd change? the FREAKING OUT OF STATE TUITION. and parking. what a RIP OFF. size-wise? ASU could be too big, but the way it's set up, you don't have to get lost in the crowd, academically or socially. how do people react when i tell them where i go? depends. a lot of people are surprised that a square like me is at a school like "that". but people know the name and most people seem to consider a good school, despite its rep. where do i spend most of my time on campus? everywhere, really...im all over the place. i will need all new shoes for next year, even though i got all new shoes at the beginning of this year...i do that much walking. favorite places are my dorm (now that i'm free of my evil roommate), hayden library, and the dining halls. college town? well we've got mill avenue, which is like pearl street mall in boulder, colorado. aka, awesome. and there's great public transportation and a lot of cool stuff that's easy to get to and not far, like the ever-wonderful tempe marketplace, home of target. <3 ASU's administration? eat some fiber, visit the bathroom, and then turn around and look before you flush - that's my opinion of ASU's administration. biggest controversy on campus? people chasing you down asking you if you have a minute for the environment or for gay and lesbian rights, people standing and screaming about how masturbators and girls in strappy tank tops are all going to hell, etc. you can't go anywhere without dodging swarms of them. school pride? oh heck yes. i was shocked to see people actually WEARING the ugly school-themed t-shirts they give out free all the time. people get real into the whole sun devil thing (this does not include me). anything unusual about ASU? i wouldn't know...i've never really been to any other college. XD there's a lot of navajos and a lot of barely-hispanic people with national hispanic scholarships, i noticed. one experience i'll always remember? stupid question...how can i choose just one? party roommate, moving dorms in the middle of the night, tutoring little kids in south phoenix (which is NOT the nice part of town), all my classes so far, the orbit...
most frequent student complaints? inflated out-of-state tuition, far away parking that costs a small fortune, foul dorms, overpaid president crow, campus stalkers (see above), the HEAT, internet (cisco clean access agent = evil incarnate), overpriced markets (where you can get toilet paper and odwalla bars and the like), dining hall hours that seem better suited to a retirement community that a college campus. (you're not allowed to be hungry at night or on weekends, pretty much) oh and math teachers that don't speak english. oh and one other thing just to mention...ASU gives our scholarships like leftover candy after halloween. oh and one thing that sucks about ASU is that you can't take pretty much ANY art or music classes unless you're an art or music major.

The atmosphere is wonderful! From the mature landscape and vibrant flowers to the old buildings and the cultural blend of people. Most people are impressed to hear that I'm going to ASU, but before I came here several adults did try to warn me about how to be safe around party people. There is a lot of school pride. Many of the people I pass each day wear school colors or logos somewhere on the attire. I remember the first time I saw the tight rope walkers practicing on Hayden lawn, between two small trees.

At ASU, there are opportunities to meet people, get involved in campus activities, all accompanied by the freedom to explore ideas and decide what and who you want to be in life. There are always people on campus speaking about their religious or political beliefs which makes for a good atmosphere of discussion and oppeness.

ASU is huge if you like getting to know people ASU is a good place to go to. It allows you to travel to California and Mexico. It isn't really much of a college town unless you are 21 or have a fake I.D. other than that it is pretty cool. There are so many things to do so you will always have something to do. Go Sun Devils

I think ASU is a great school. There is a lot of activities students can get involved in. The campus is pretty big and there are plenty of people around. It's great for networking, meeting new people, getting help for school work. Another aspect that drew me to ASU is the school spirit, especially at sporting events. I love sports and especially this past year the students were in full school spirit mode for our football team and basketball team. I'm excited about the baseball season coming up and love that students are always there to support our athletes.

ASU is too big. It is really great that ASU is so diverse but the sheer number of students walking around campus and driving around campus is overwhelming. Sometimes classes are too large but the professors seem to have learned how to adapt to managing large classes. A lot of people spend time at the library on the computers or sleeping but many people I have found don't know how to navigate the library (not because it's confusing but because the students don't care). Mill avenue is definitely fun. It is a great college town with access to both more serious activities (jobs, research, etc.) and fun activities (clubs, shops, etc.). The only unusual thing about ASU is it's size and the weather. It's terribly hot most of the time but it means you can wear casual clothes all the time. The biggest controversy or event that happened recently was the MU fire. There still isn't a know cause and it caused a lot of problems for all the people who ate at the MU and the clubs that met there. It's getting back to normal now though.

Some may feel ASU is way to large of a campus. Personally, I thought the size was perfect in all aspects. I enjoyed being part of the crowd. One thing I have learned is that there are very few people that, if given the chance, to attend Arizona State University, wouldn't take that opportunity. Everyone from out of state wants to go to ASU. The weather, the student body, the sports teams, the surrounding city, etc. are all the reasons why it is the greatest university in the country, hands down. The school pride is amazing at ASU. There is really no choice to root for your second favorite team. Its ASU or nobody. The experience at the ASU/UofA sports games is unreal. Although it is a lesser known rivalry across the nation, it is by far the most intense rivalry I have experienced.

I think ASU is too large, but at the same time, I really like it because if we were too small and you knew everyone, then I would feel too suffocated. I like that I can walk around campus, see someone I know and feel special because I saw someone in such a large place.
When people at home find that I go to ASU, they have good reactions... but most of them are older- parents... my sister is about to go to UA next fall as a new freshman- of course her reactions sucks.
Since I'm an education student, I do not spend much time on campus at all- we are interning and student teaching (currently) and don't have classes on campus once we reach our junior year and are accepted into the professional program of education.
total college town, which i LOVE
ASU administration is OK- some people don't know what they're talking about and some are mean for no reason.. but there are also ones that rock.
LOTS of school pride... go devils!
I will always remember my freshman year- as that was the only year I spent on campus- living time and class time- I made great friendships and still hold close to that group from the dorm.

The best thing about ASU is that there are multiple campuses. If you want that big city college experience you can get that at the Tempe campus. If you decide you want a focused major you can move to a smaller campus where you are much closer with your peers.
School pride is ridiculous! We could lose every game for a decade and still have more school spirit than UofGAY(uofa)

The best thing is the Honors College and the willingness to defy academic convention. The worst thing is ASU 101 and mandatory meal plans, which give you more crap food than you could ever hope to eat, and generally the willingness to run it like a corporation. The school is definitely too large, but once you get integrated into your department it's manageable. Tempe was sort of a college town and is now a commercialized version of one. There are very few transit-friendly off-campus hangout spots for the underage or more studious. Tempe city government also discriminates against students in off campus housing and generally tries to pretend that the university doesn't exist and doesn't totally run their economy.
