What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
To parents: allow your students to make their own choice. Guide them in their decision and share your opinions, but ultimately they have to live with the choice so let them decide themselves. Also, be supportive of the things that your student is active in, whether you like your daughter playing rugby or your son being on the cheerleading squad, be supportive, it means the world to us to feel like you stand behind us.
To students: work hard while you are in school. You or your parents are paying lots of money for you to get the best education you can, so do that. Don't exclude all fun, but remember why you are at college in the first place. Also, try new things, don't feel like just because you were never in the ski club in high school that you can't be in college. There are so many opportunities to enrich yourself and your life that you would be foolish to only do what you have always done.

Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.
Ashland is an expert at recruiting young/naive high-schoolers. They are deceitful, and can get their students through the door but just can't seem to keep em.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
Ashland was a small school, which was both a blessing and a curse--you get a better sense of community there, but sometimes it feels like a small bubble. But I really enjoyed the school regardless.

What kind of person should attend this school?
Those who attend this school should be driven by great ambitions and seek a good education. This is not a campus to sleep through classes and slack off on homework and studying. The large cost of tuition should productively reel in those who seek a good education at whatever cost and therefore reduce the chance of failure among students. The slogan for this school is ?Accent on the Individual? which stands true due to the personal interactions with professors and the small professor to student ration in the classroom. The professors are really looking for success in their classroom.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
how expensive books are and how the bookstore will only give you like two dollars for a book you spent over 100 or more dollars on. and i think our dorms can be a little bit bigger.

What kind of person should not attend this school?
Anybody who does not want to attend class because all of your teachers know you and if you are not in class they constantly will take note of it. The also have to be dedicated to what they are studying in order to succeed well.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
GREEK LIFE. There are four fraternities and four sororities on campus. I personally never thought I would join a sorority and I didn't go through rush my first semester. But one of my really good friends did, and convinced me to go through informal recruitment and I'm so glad I did. You meet a ridiculous amount of people.
Athletics are also pretty popular on campus. Something like 70{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the total students are involved in a varsity sport. We also have club and intramural sports (I play on the women's club fastpitch softball team).

What's the Greek scene like?
Greek Life makes up about 25{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the student population at Ashland University and it is definitely no the stereotypical Greek Life that you would see in movies or on TV. There are three fraternities - Phi Kappa Psi, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Phi Delta Theta, as well as four sororities - Alpha Phi, Delta Zeta, Phi Mu, and Alpha Delta Pi. Each of the Greek organizations focuses on their chapters philanthropies, sisterhood/brotherhood, scholarship, and leadership. Many of the student organizations outside of the Greek system are lead by Greeks. There are strict hazing rules and the Greeks support a friendly and positive environment that has no room for hazing.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
One of my favorite things about Ashland University is the diversity in its students, however we all have one thing in common, we are all generally nice people. Ashland, Ohio is known to be the "world headquarters of nice people." Legit? I think so. At Ashland University we have everything from your sorority women and fraternity men to your football, baseball, and track stars, to the valedictorian of your high school class. AU also has a large population of international students which allows for AU students to gain a global perspective.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
One of my favorite things about Ashland University is that the faculty and professors truly care about your well-being and future. They will help give you the resources you need to succeed. All of the class sizes are 15-20 people, which allows for a truly unique experience for each student as the professors put an "accent on the individual." The school is fairly small, with roughly 2500 undergrads. On campus, you have the opportunity to get involved in over 100 student organizations which range from community service groups, academic honoraries, Greek Life, intramural teams, and a variety of other activities. We also have one of hte best school cafeteria's in the nation.

What are the academics like at your school?
Every professor truly believes in the success and achievement of every student at Ashland University. Students typically enjoy participating in classes. As a Journalism and Digital Media major at AU, I have been able to gain valuable hands on experience for my future career as each of the classes focuses on your writing, editing, scripting, and camera techniques. Ashland is a liberal arts school and has a core curriculum of 54 credit hours that consist of humanities, sciences, social science, aesthetics, history, and English courses.
