A friendly environment with some less than stellar teachers. A superior learning experience to many other conservatories in the area. I have found the students are quick to cliques, but you'll always find someone to connect with at NEC. I also think the private teachers are some of the best in the nation.

It is a great school for string players looking to get better at their instrument. As for the social scene, it is not much of a party school and not much happens here on the weekends but this encourages people to practice harder instead of going out every night.

NEC is an excellent music conservatory! The jazz program is very small, so it is selective. You get alot of individual attention, unlike some of the larger schools. There are many opportunities to perform, many ensembles to audition for. The school fosters an atmosphere of support between students rather than competition. The teachers are great! They are presently building new dorms and cafeteria which I'm sure will be very nice. I think NEC is one of the best conservatories in the country!
