What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back now, I would tell myself to work much harder than I did in high school. I would tell myself that growing up and going to college is not as fightening as it may seem. I know now that leaving my friends and going our seperate ways is not the end of the world. I would make sure to tell myself that it will be much easier to keep my grades up now rather than trying to build them back up later on.

Describe your favorite campus traditions.
Des Moines Area Community College is known for its diversity and also how inexpensive college could be. DMACC offers many majors and provides quality education for the surrounding communities. DMACC offers an opportunity for many to start an education no matter what your education background is. I know that people who never recieved a high school diploma has an ability to either recieve a GED or adult high school diploma at DMACC. Without that ability I could see how some people would be discourage to attend college, however, DMACC does offer that chance to any.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
The most popular group to get involved with at the Des Moines Area Community College is the Student Activities Council (SAC). Those who are involved in SAC not only get 1 credit per semester, but they also have a huge say in what activities go on at DMACC. Due to the fact that DMACC is not a university, there isn't a typical drinking/party scene on campus. While there are three different housing units on the Ankeny campus, it is really up to each individual how much partying you're involved with (just like in high school). For the most part, you will not be disturbed by any parties because they are usually taken off campus.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
The stereotype of students at DMACC is that we are a bunch of extra poor students who can't afford to go to a university. This stereotype is completely inaccurate. Most students who go to DMACC are simply there because they are choosing to be wise with their money, or lack thereof. In reality, unless your parents are paying your way through college, you are going to be a broke college student no matter what school you attend. However, by attending DMACC, you have the opportunity to have a great first two years of college for a fraction of the cost. This will help you later on in life if you are looking to not acquire debt.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The most frustrating thing I find in my school is that is has many younger students who are there to get their degree, not as much there to learn and gain perspective on life and how the world works. It's frustrating to want more from these students and to be constantly let down, but I have to learn that you can only help people as much as they allow.
