What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If i was a high school senior, i would try really hard to improve my GPA. It ended a little low, and any little bit helps in terms of finacial aid. I would also like to go back and do better on the ACT, if i had done better i would have recieved more financial aid. I think that i would also tell myself to just relax, i was very nervous about college when in high school. I didnt really enjoy transition, and it didnt help my first semster at school.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
Entering into Trinity Christian College, I wish I knew about the work-load. The work-load here at this college is a heavy load. There is always some work to do pertaining to whatever major that you have. I wish my previous family members who attended this college would have told me about the work-load and how open the professors are at this campus. On my first-day of attending Trinity Christain college I was caught off guard by how open, warm and welcoming the students and staff of this college were; it was very inviting.

What kind of person should not attend this school?
Trinity Christian College is made up of mostly white students. In my opinion, if an African American is looking for a school in which he or she can easily find others of the same background; this may not be the best school of choice.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
Overall, I would say the most frustrating thing about Trinity Christian College are the expenses. Every year, things on Campus become more and more expensive. This ranges from the meals in the cafeteria, to the items in the vending machine, to (more importantly) living on campus itself. I don't expect college to be cheap, but due to the rising expenses (the college tuition which was raised by $1000), education in general is becoming less and less affordable.

What's unique about your campus?
The best thing about my school is the size. I always attended high schools with a large population so Trinity is a nice change of size. It is easier to get to know people and the enviroment seems alot less anxious. Professors are also able to get to know their students easier, which makes it nice for the students who are seeking help from their professors.

What kind of person should attend this school?
Students who want to attend a small college that is Christ centered should attend here. The campus is very small, but it is near Chicago so you can go downtown to experience things that you would not usually be able to experience while attending college. Since it is a small campus, you will get to know many of the other studnets and the professors. They really care about you and want to help you out. Since it is a Christian college, there is an emphasis on how we can live our lives and use our careers to glorify God.

What are the academics like at your school?
Other majors I cannot speak for. I can only speak for Communication Arts classes, Social Work classes, and Business classes. I transferred in with an Associates Degree -- so some general education classes are beyond my knowledge and experience. Speaking of my education, I am going to TCC for Communication Arts with a minor in English.
Now, teachers do get to know you by name. Because the small student-to-teacher ration allows this, you can also get to know your teachers, too. Class participation happens to be common place; in Foundations of Human Communication, class participation gets you to new places that you would otherwise not have gone to. As Dr. Mattson commented one time, independent thinking happens in community.
The Communication Arts (Comm. Arts) people have friendly and helpful personalities. They got the wisdom, the teaching skills, and the ability for sustained reflection -- so as to pass what they know on to you, to guide us all and focus us on the common topic we all talk about in a given class period(s). What does this exactly mean? They know what they are doing. They know what you need. And what you need happens to be a quality education.
The education I am earning at TCC happens to be a mixture of geared towards a job and learning for its own sake. I do not believe that this dichotomy is true, at least at TCC. It's more of a sliding scale. Happening to be a sliding scale, students should expect to get a good education in Communications. They will be taught how to speak, how to write, how to speak persuasively, how to speak with wisdom and eloquence, and how to write -- clearly, without "lard" (prepositional phrases and passive verbs, which muddles the perspicuity of sentences).
To summarize, academics at TCC challenge your thinking, challenge how you feel about subjects/topics, and challenges preconceived notions you hold of reality.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
Overall, TCC holds a high place in my mind. I have a high opinion of TCC for several reasons. First, the staff, teachers, faculty, and students genuinely care. What may come across as uncaring personalities at larger universities probably in reality happens to be a limit of time teachers have for students. Compared to larger universities, TCC only has, at most, 25 students per class. A lower student to teacher ratio translates into more quality time, I believe. Secondly, I feel this school happens to be just right for me. For you, you may thrive in a large university! You may like that large campus, with all those people. I do not know about larger universities -- but at TCC you are not merely a number. You are a name. Third, the teachers have connections. Therefore, finding internship opportunities doesn't have to be an impossible thing.
However, no school does not have their shortcomings. No school is "perfect". Perfection arguably happens to be a sort of an impossible ideal. Settle for "good", not simply "perfect". The biggest problem happens to be the proverbial "Christian Bubble". The Bubble keeps students from exploring life. To keep one from exploring life deprives one of those essential experiences that causes one to grow and gain independance. TCC combats this by hosting nights-in-the-city, in Chicago -- since Chi-town is nearby. Midway Airport happens to be twenty minutes from TCC. Get to Midway, park, and you can take the Orange Line into Chicago.
