It is a decent community college. However, it feels like it's changed over the years in regard to classes, people, etc... I will say it may be known as the last resort for some students. As in, some people will fool around and not think of their classes being a high priority. I've seen some students take having friends and ditching classes as more important than their overall academic progress. But then again some people come straight out of high school, and do not know what they want to do when they first come here.

The college of lake county is a great college. The professors so far are very nice and very relatable. They are there for you when you need them and if you message them or call them after their office hours, they will get back to you right away. There are a lot of clubs and there is always going to be someone who thinks the same way that you do. They have jobs in the campus that are available for students in need and they are understanding of any obstacles that may be going on

The college is nice when it comes to getting general education credits out of the way. It is close to home so students save money by avoiding housing and the school is surrounded by food places and other small businesses where students can hang out and spend their time after class. Some professors actually care about their students well-being; I had a professor who checked in on the students mental health every other week and would accommodate homework loads depending on the stress levels of her students. Some professors it is easy to see that they do not care and only want to get paid; they do not care if their students do well as long as they just get through another class/another day. The students are divided into multiple "classes". You have students who are heavily involved and walk around with their noses up in the air and think the world revolves around them. There are students who only show up for their class, do not socialize or interact, and then leave as soon as they can. There are students who actually enjoy their social lives at school and who do exceptionally well in class, they usually are very disciplined, motivated, and sometimes their hard work will rub off on other students. But, for the majority of those who attend the College of Lake County, they are miserable, depressed, lonely, and tired of doing the same routine every day. Of course there are a wide variety of services (but those services seem to only honor the LGBTQ+ community and minority groups). Anyone else who does not identify in those types of groups, they get moved aside and are expected to do their best with a smile without hesitation. All in all, I do think the College of Lake County is a good community college where adults can achieve the next steps in the educational career, but I definitely think there can be room for improvement with regards to faculty, inclusiveness, expectations of students during hard/trying times, and funding that can be redirected to other necessities, such as a better weight room rather than nicer vending machines.

    When I was in high school I did not understand that it was the beginning of my future. If I were to go back in time and talk to myself about the college experiences that I have had, I would explain that high school is the start of your college career. You need to put your all into everything that you do in order to ensure that you will have a bright future. It may seem that high school doesn't matter all that much, but really it is the gateway to getting accepted into your dream college and getting that job that you have always wanted. You need to prove to yourself and others that you deserve everything because you worked hard to achieve your dream... Because hard work and dedication leads to a lifetime of happiness.

    The only people that should not attend this school are those not truly ready for the commitment required to obtain a college education. The College of Lake County welcomes people from all age ranges and nationalities.

  4. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

    When I am talking to my friends about my school, I tell them that College of Lake County has wonderful teachers. I tell them this because every instructor I have had at CLC has wanted to help me on a one- on- one basis. The instructors know how to reach each student with any of their problems or concerns they have. When you are in an instructor's class, you get to know your instructor in a personal, professional way. College of Lake County does not only have wonderful instructors, but they are a wonderful school for everyone!

    I think the community college is more personalized than a big university. It is easier to get to know fellow classmates. Of course, not everyone gets along, but I like the fact that it is easy to learn about each other. There is a huge variety of students, from young to old and all different decents. For the most part, the majority of students I have met are easy-going people looking to further their education.

  6. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

    The worst attribute of the College of Lake County would be the low number of applicants allowed into the nursing program twice per year. There is a substantial possibility of being placed on a waiting list to gain entry into the nursing program. This in turn may delay career goals and life plans.

    The College of Lake County is a clean, active, diverse school that offers a large amount of classes and provides a safe atmosphere for you to acheive your goals whether it is an Associates Degree or completeing transfer credits.

  9. What's unique about your campus?

    The College of Lake County is so diverse in age and ethnicities. It's so awsome to have different clubs that are for different cultures such as the Latino Alliance and Asian Student Alliance to different intrests like art and language. The school really supports and embraces its different students and the needs of the studetns. In one way or anther, we all learn from eachother. They hold events that teach the community about the different clubs whis is really sharing about the different people.

    I wish I knew that it had the social programs it had. Until my second year, I had trouble expanding into the student body. I didn't know much about the choir I joined later there either.

    Every type of person should attend this school if they have a desire to learn. It is particularly beneficial for the financially needed to attend a community college.

    It's a great school, I'm getting the experience that I expected, and the judgement that it's a "last chance" school if you didn't do well on your ACT is wrong and unfair. The people who go there are continuing their education at an affordable price and that's what's most valuable to anyone thinking of going to college.

  14. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

    The most frustrating thing about my school is that there are few French classes. The next highest class I can take is French Civilization because I took three years of French in high school. This meant when I went to take French in college, I was all ready in the highest "traditional" French class--Intermediate French II. That class was one semester and French Civilization interferes with another class so I can't take it! It's really frustrating as I love the language!

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
