What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
No matter what, I never give up. With all the adversities that come with being a college Freshman, I stick to my goals, avoid the common temptations that undergraduates face such as drinking, drug abuse, slacking off (I didn't even gain the freshman fifteen)! I study hard, participate in school activities, and keep one thing in mind, my dreams and aspirations. I love being involved with my peers, the school curriculum, and the overall of being woven into the fabric of my university. I have a deep desire to help others. This is not only evident on campus, but, upon my graduation I will use my education and passion to to serve my community and my country.

What's unique about your campus?
What I consider the best thing about Joliet Junior College is the flexibility of their course schedules and the great guidance of the Academic Counselors. Many students have jobs, including myself, and JJC makes it easier to sign up for classes that fit a students busy schedule. The academic Counselors take their time to find the best classes to fit your major. Most students transfer to a 4 year college or university so the counselors do a good job in helping you pick courses that transfer to other schools.

Joliet junior College is the oldest and one of the best community colleges in the nation. It has 3 campuses with a wide variety of majors to choose from and offers a great opportunity to be taught in smaller class size settings at prices that are lower than those of a 4-year school. It also has a great staff that is dedicated towards helping their students achieve their goals as they go through programs at JJC or get ready to transfer to a 4-year University.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
Not knowing what I wanted to major in, I decided to stay in town and attend the local junior college. Joliet Junior College is close to home, it is less expensive than any University, and it is small and personal. The professors are extremely determined in helping students and because classes are so small, student/teacher interaction is always available. Staying in town and living at home not only saves me money on classes, but allows me to work part time as well. JJC provides its students with countless opportunities at a reasonable price.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
Before I attended this school I would have been good to get academic advising. Instinctively I chose to take several classes that we for my major, and it left me with a ton of general education classes for my last two semesters. The freshman orientation is gear more towards disciplinary guidelines that are standard everywhere instead of what the school has to offer.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
Jjc offers a good pitch but cant live up to it. I love the school but the housing, Centennial Commons, they offer is HORRIBLE. They have mice, roaches and spiders EVERYWHERE. They suck you in and bind you to a contract that you can only get out of by death ! Even after death your parents are stuck paying rent for the coming months. You can't have visitors. A 15-0 run midway through the second half Wednesday night at Wills Gymnasium lifted Joliet Junior College to one of its biggest victories of the season.
