The only reason I went to Black Hawk Community College was because of the price and because I got a pretty decent scholarship there. Both of my siblings went to community college before going to university, and I was no different. However, I will say that the professors at BHC are super helpful and mostly understanding. The only thing that is pretty terrible is the fact that speech is a required class, and the speech professor is a pretty harsh grader. Other than that, all the professors I've had so far are amazing. I recommend taking most of the classes online, except for speech and other lab classes. This is because I found that the online classes were a lot easier. If you're looking to save some money and have smaller class sizes, then BHC is pretty good.

Its a very ok school. What you would expect from a community college. Its nothing incredibly special. A lot of students have really good fashion sense though. A few teachers ive had are also pretty funny teachers, they tell jokes that arent just "hello fellow kids"

Overall, this school provided with with everything I need and more before I transfer on to a four year college. It has opened my eyes to another life and if I didn't go here I know I would've been a much different person. This has been an experience I am very grateful for.

It a very good college to discovered new things. Not only that they have a lot of classes that are really interesting even to a people, who didn’t know what they goals are or what they want to become in the future. For me it one of the community colleges I would considering going.

Black Hawk College FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Black Hawk College?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Black Hawk College is 100%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I am a nontraditional student; a mother and a wife. Traveling back in time to my senior year would give me the opportunity to reinvent myself into a college graduate before beginning a family of my own. My best advice to myself would consist of motivation. I would rely on the old saying ?if there is a will, there is a way?. I would tell myself not to give up. Taking opportunity in my own hands and going out there searching for the means so I could get an education. Time goes so fast and the next thing one knows is that they are married with children. One can no longer be selfish, but selfless. Give to yourself first. Be selfish and manage your time wisely while in college, because in the real world it is very difficult to find time for yourself and live your dream of a college education.

  5. What's unique about your campus?

Through my experience, when it comes to my school the educators are the best! I have seen these people take their valuable time and assist students on an individual basis. I have always been fortunate enough to form outstanding student teacher relationships. These educators are real people who have been in our shoes and have an understanding of our situations, but treat us as adults. They facilitate lifelong learning in their students.

  6. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about the school I currently attend is that all of the students are commuter students. It's harder to make friends and get close to people when you're not living right next to each other like in dorms at a regular university.

  8. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

I love the ADN nursing program and the instructors. I feel like they really care about my learning experience.

  9. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

My school has two campuses. The east campus seems to be located right out my back door, while the main campus is an hour drive. I am a nursing student and all my nursing classes are held at the main campus. Therefore the most frustrating thing about my school is that the nursing classes for the ADN program are only located at the main campus. The drive is very long and winter driving conditions are not always ideal. However, I continue to overcome this frustration by knowing that my education will lead my family and I into a brighter future.
