DVC is a great community college for students looking to get their general education finished up and transfer. Classes aren't too big so you have more opportunities to talk to professors, and the campus is pretty and offers a good food selection in the cafeteria as well. The quality of education is very average, however, and many online teachers opt to not personally teach or create their own assignments but to have the entire class be structured around an online textbook with homework assignments and tests attached to the online textbook program. There are sports and music programs, but there is a limited amount of clubs and groups to join to meet people and have a more typical college experience. I would also say that it can be very difficult to speak to counselors, as their hours are highly limited and accommodating for community college students.

Diablo Valley college is honestly a great school, their financial aid is good enough that I have paid slightly more than 100 dollars for class tuition for my whole 3.5 years there. The teachers are most commonly good ones with the occasional bad seed. Coming from the mechanical engineering degree side of things, the technology that they have at DVC is fantastic. They have all the programs you could need, 3D printers, computers everywhere, and the capabilities to work hard and study hard with all the resources you could ask for. I am a first generation college student, so my knowledge of college has been very limited, and so counsellors and their transfer center have been a great help in teaching me what to do, and how to transfer out (which I am transferring to California State University Sacramento). The people at DVC are calm and collected, not too many like “snooty” or high-strung type characters too. There are a lot of international students at DVC however, they are usually the ones who are high strung if you find someone who is. The teachers are usually really good, I’ve found some really kind, hardworking and genuinely caring teachers who have gone the extra mile to make sure their students succeed. Though, just saying, there are a few teachers around the school to stay away from, but its easy to learn and all you need to do is your best, and this school will work out amazingly for anybody who goes here.

Diablo Valley College is a fantastic community college for those that want to transfer or get their associates. People are really there to learn and are intensely focused, but still inclusive and has a friendly and welcoming environment. The professors are great as well, not all of them have been perfect but most will always help out in any way they can.

This is a great college to attend. There are a lot of resources. I would recommend seeing your counselor before and at the end of every semester; at least that’s what worked for me. I changed majors a few times however the counselors helped me adjust into a new major. Great experience.

Diablo Valley College FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Diablo Valley College?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Diablo Valley College is 100%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would strongly advice myself to be more confident and outgoing. I would tell myself to translate those two qualities in the form of community service, volunteer work and leadership roles which not only look good on the college applications but are just beneficial in general. I would tell myself to get in the habit of reading at least five books a month solely because one gets smarter after each page. I would try to convince my younger self by stating the I have not performed at my optimal level yet because of my inability to do lots of reading. If I plant this seed and establish a good habit during the high school years, it would have a lot of contribution to my successful future including my performance in college. I would also advice myself to get work experience early on, in the form of internships and even talking to people working in the field I am majoring in. With internships, I will get a good glimpse of the working environment and from the people in field I can be enriched with their useful infield experiences which would be beneficial to me when I start working.
