If you have ever spent any time in a hospital, you probably know that one bright aspect during your stay usually has to do with your nurses. Very rarely do you encounter a nurse like Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest — most nurses are compassionate and willing to go the extra mile to make your stay as tolerable as possible. Many who choose this profession are like angels with stethoscopes. Unfortunately, acquiring a nursing degree can be expensive and many prospective nurses turn to student loans to help pay the bills. Well, we’ve got the prescription for a better economic solution for these future Florence Nightingales. In celebration of National Nurses Week (May 6-12), we have compiled a list of some I.V. league scholarships for nurses and those in the medial field. 1. Tylenol Scholarship Program – While this award is not specifically for nurses alone, the number of awards available and size of each scholarship warrants mentioning. Any U.S. student who is pursuing a career in a health-related field may apply. Students must be undergraduate or graduate students, as well. Ten $10,000 scholarships and thirty $5,000 scholarships will be awarded. Deadline: June 15. 2. Sheridan National Allied Health Scholarship – Any U.S. student who has completed four or more semesters of an accredited graduate program may apply for this award. Each applicant must be enrolled full-time in a nurse anesthesia program and have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded. Deadline: January 15. 3. Nurses of Tomorrow Scholarship – Medical Solutions is offering three $1,000 scholarships to any U.S. students enrolled full-time in pre-nursing or nursing degree programs. Students must have a grade point averages of 2.75 or higher. Deadline: June 6. 4. AORN Foundation Student Nurse Scholarship – This award is for both U.S. and international students who are currently enrolled in accredited nursing programs. Students must have completed at least nine or more credit hours, and have grade point averages of 3.0 or higher. The number of winners varies, but last year 54 scholarships were awarded. The value of each scholarship ranges between $500 and $2,500. Deadline: June 15. Be sure to take some time to thank a nurse this week; they often work long hours and typically care deeply for their patients. It takes a special person to handle many of the day-to-day duties that come with being a nurse. Besides your mom, there’s probably no other person who will change your sheets, clean up your mess and still give you a smile at the end of the day.Share this article
