Wondering if that prepackaged first aid kit will really save you after a post-breakup throw-a-thon or during a bout of the pre-test runs? Here are the first aid essentials according to the pros (a.k.a. my mom the surgeon) that will cure almost anything.
Wound Dressings
- Band-Aids for minor owies.
- Sterile Gauze (2”x2” and 4”x4”) and Gauze Wrap 2”-3” to sop up the major bar brawl lacerations.
- 4” Ace Wrap if you sprain or pull muscles during physical “activities.”
- 1” Paper Tape to wrap wounds.
- Ice Pack for your bruises, bumps and general numbing needs.
Topical Medications
- Antibacterial Ointment (Neosporin) for a bacteria-less boo boo.
- Hydrocortisone Cream because bedbug bites itch!
- Antiseptic Cleanser (Betadine, Hibiclens, rubbing alcohol, etc.) to clean cuts.
Non-Prescription Medications
- Acetaminophen (Tylenol) for headaches.
- Ibuprofen for hangovers.
- Benadryl for allergic reactions or if you just want to sleep through your roommate’s recorder practice.
- Indigestion meds (Tums, Mylanta, Pepcid, Maalox), because Taco Bell is never as good of an idea as it seemed.
- Decongestants (Sudafed, Claritin, Drixoral) for springtime allergies or smoky parties.
- Cough Syrup to remind you of childhood.
- Throat lozenges for post-game scratchiness.
- Eye drops for a pretend cry-fest fight with your boyfriend.
- Anti-diarrheal (Pepto-Bismol, Imodium) to take before your big presentation.
